No. 1 Belleville gets past No. 6 Caledonia to repeat as D1 champions

   No. 1-ranked Belleville downed No. 6-ranked Caledonia 35-17 to win its second-straight  MHSAA Division 1 championship.

    The game was tied 14-14 at halftime, Belleville outscored Caledonia 21-3 in the second half.

    Sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood was 15-for-25 passing for 155 yards and two touchdowns

(Adrian Walker for seven yards and Mychal Yharbrough for 25 yards). Underwood also rushed for 150 yards and a 48-yard touchdown.

    Junior Colbey Reed rushed for a 38-yard touchdown and junior Jeremiah Beasley ran for a 36-yard score in the win. Beasley also had seven tackles on defense.

Warren De La Salle pounds Forest Hills Central to go back to back

   No. 2-ranked Warren De La Salle Collegiate dominated No. 4-ranked Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central 52-13 to win its second straight MHSAA Division 2 championship.

    Senior quarterback Brady Drogosh was steller, passing for three touchdowns and rushing for two. Drogosh finished 21-for-23 passing for 249 yards and scores to senior Jack Yanachik (38 yards) and senior Triston Nichols (nine yards). Drogosh rushed for 152 yards and

found the end zone from three yards and nine yards out.

    Junior Rhett Roeser rushed 54 yards and two touchdowns (three yards and 19 yards). Freshman Damion King IV caught seven passes for 91 yards.

    De La Salle led 35-0 midway through the second quarter and most of the fourth quarter was played under a running clock.

Detroit King dominates Muskegon to earn second straight D3 championship

   No. 5-ranked Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. powered past No. 2-ranked Muskegon 56-27 to win its second straight MHSAA Division 3 championship.

    Senior quarterback Dante Moore (Oregon) was stellar in this final high school game, finishing 21-for-26 passing for 275 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions.

    Moore tossed two scoring passes to junior Jameel Croft Jr. (13 and 12 yards), one to sophomore Damon Stennis (two yards), and one to senior Jacobe Oglesby (13 yards).

    Croft Jr. opened the scoring for King with a 96-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff.

    Senior Sterling Anderson Jr. rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns (19 and 80 yards).

    Stennis added a nine-yard rushing touchdown.

    Junior Terrence Moore was a perfect eight-for-eight on extra points.

    Senior Samuel Washington had nine tackles and senior Tim Ruffin had eight tackles for King.

No. 1 Grand Rapids South Christian shuts out No. 6 Goodrich for D4 title

   No. 1-ranked Grand Rapids South Christian shut out No. 6-ranked Goodrich 28-0 to win the MHSAA Division 4 championship.

    Senior quarterback Jacob DeHaan was 14-for-21 passing for 266 yards and two touchdowns (senior Nate Brinks for three yard and sophomore Carson Vis for 23 yards). DeHaan also rushed for 110 yards and a 54-yard

touchdown.

  South Christian led 14-0 at halftime.

   Junior Jake Vermaas returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown. Vermaas also caught seven passes for 152 yards.

Late field goal lifts No. 3 Gladwin past Frankenmuth for D5 championship

   Junior Treyton Siegert's 21-yard field goal with two seconds left in the game lifted No. 3-ranked Gladwin to a 10-7 win over No. 2-ranked Frankenmuth to win its first MHSAA Division 5 championship.

    With the game tied at 7-7, Gladwin drove 78 yards in the final 3:26 for the game-winning field goal.

   The game was scoreless at halftime.

   Frankenmuth scored first in the third quarter on a two-yard run by junior Griffin Barker.

    Gladwin tied the score with a minute left in the third when senior quarterback Nick Wheeler connected with senior Kaden McDonald for a 30-yard touchdown. McDonald also had seven tackles on defense. Senior Earl Esiline had eight tackles. Audio/Video/Final stats

Dominate second half lifts No. 1 Grand Rapids West Catholic to D6 crown

   No. 1-ranked Grand Rapids West Catholic rolled past No. 3-ranked Negaunee 59-14 to win its second MHSAA Division 6 championship.

    With the game tied at 14-14 at early in the third quarter, West Catholic outscored Negaunee 45-0 to earn the win.

    Timmy Kloska rushed for 241 yards and four touchdowns (61, 16, three, and 13 yards).

   Bernie Varnesdeel passed for 225 yards and three touchdowns, two to Carter Perry (72 and 32 yards) and one to Andrew McAlary (68 yards). McAlary caught three passes for 121 yards. Perry caught two passes for 104 yards.

    Elliot Zainea rushed for a 26-yard touchdown.

Jackson Lumen Christi rallies in fourth to claim championship

   No. 5-ranked Jackson Lumen Christi rallied in the fourth quarter to get past No. 1-ranked Traverse City St. Francis 15-12 to win the  MHSAA Division 7 championship.

    St. Francis led 12-0 heading into the fourth quarter on two second-quarter touchdowns.

    Senior quarterback Joe Lathers rushed for an 18-yard

touchdown and sophomore Andrew Salazar got the extra point to close the gap to 12-7 with 11:10 left in the game.

    Senior Derrick Walker scored the game-winner from two yards out and Lathers rushed for the conversion with 7:05 on the clock. Lathers rushed for 115 yards and was 9-for-15 passing for 99 yards.

Ottawa Lake Whiteford edges Ubly 26-20 to earn second championship

   No. 1-ranked Ottawa Lake Whiteford edged No. 3-ranked Ubly 26-20 to win its second MHSAA Division 8 championship.

    With the game tied at 20-20, senior quarterback Shea Ruddy rushed for a seven-yard touchdown with 1:59 left in the game to give the Bobcats the win. Ruddy also rushed for a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

He finished with 65 yards rushing and was 8-for-12 passing for 112 yards. He also had 12 tackles on defense.

   Junior Hunter DeBarr rushed for two touchdowns (26 and four yards) and 94 yards in the victory.

    Junior Ryin Ruddy had 12 tackles and junior Kolby Masserant caught five passes for 82 yards.
